Weekend Update: Make Goat Soap at The Farm & More!

This weekend and every weekend in our area, there’s a chance to do something very unique! If you’re feeling creative and crafty, there are two great events coming up that you can take part in! First, join expert Felicia Payne Nicholson in “Making Goat Soap” – a workshop put on at The Farm at Prophetstown on Saturday, May 19. Felicia comes from Patchwork Acres Farm and will be demonstrating the art of goat soap making. Felicia runs a very successful farm business where she makes products using milk from goats raised right on her farm. She will demonstrate milking and the process of making goat soap. Also happening this Saturday is the Spring Boutique and Craft Fair! Hosted at the Tippecanoe County Mall, there will be a exciting array of options to explore. There will be over TWENTY vendors – ranging from handmade crafts, to Pampered Chef, to It Works, to Lu La Roe. Bring your friends for a fun day of shopping, giveaways, awesome samples, and  you can support local small businesses at the same time! Crafts, shopping, samples, giveaway, grands, sew, sale,unique, homemade, fun, jewelry, clothes, nutrition, makeup, accessories…. All at this weekend’s Spring Boutique & Craft Fair! Weekend Update: Animal Lover’s Weekend!

If you love animals, there are always activities in Lafayette-West Lafayette for you! This Saturday, April 28, is the 7th Annual Loving Heart Animal Shelter Ladies Bingo Night & After Party! This charitable event begins at 6 and ends at midnight! All for the animals – there will be bingo, a silent auction, a raffle and great food! Dance your heart out afterwards and until midnight! For a more hands-on experience for animal lovers, visit The Farm at Prophetstown this weekend! On Saturday from 10 AM to Noon and 1 PM to 3 PM, you can learn all about sheep shearing! Experts Pat and Harold Dorrell will be showing how to shear sheep, spin wool, and educating everyone on how to raise sheep! This duo owns Simple Soapworks and Farm Yarns, and travels the Midwest doing workshops and selling their homemade products! If you’re interested in raising your own animals someday, or just want to learn more about the farm lifestyle, this is the event for you.

Weekend Update: Heirloom Seed Library Resource & Evening of Romance

Lafayette-West Lafayette Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in or near Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

This Saturday, February 10th, from 1-3pm is the Grand Opening of Heirloom Seed Library Resource at The Farm at Prophetstown State Park. It is free to the public! Seed library patrons can choose DSCN2161from hundreds of varieties of heirloom seeds, some of which are organic.  Seeds are free, and seed saving instructions are available.  While seed library patrons are not required to donate back saved seeds, it is encouraged so the library can continue into the future. The seed library opens this weekend and will then be open during the Farm’s regular winter hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 p.m. Celebrate the magic of a seed and know the pleasure of growing your own garden!

 

For an early Valentines’ Day celebration on Saturday, join the performance of the Purdue Jazz Band at Purdue’s Marriott Hall. This beautiful building is home to the school’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The “Evening of Romance” begins at 8pm and goes Jazz 2until 10pm. Tickets are available here. Please have your tickets printed for entry into the event. Doors open at 7:15, where hors d’oeuvre and dessert buffet will be served. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase using cash only! The dress code for this romantic event is business casual to cocktail attire. More information can be found on their website.
