Brides and Grooms to be, check this out! This Sunday, March 3, the Elegant Bridal Expo is taking place in the Purdue Memorial Union. This community event is expected to host 50 wedding related vendors from the Greater Lafayette area to benefit the Student Chapter of Professional Convention Management Organization, local businesses, and future brides. In addition to vendors, a fashion show displaying the latest wedding gowns, tuxes, and bridesmaid dresses will take place in the north ballroom featuring partnered vendors. Brides to be will get in for free, and all guests are $5/person at the door.

Head to Purdue this weekend on Friday, April 29 or Saturday, April 30 for the annual Purdue Contemporary Dance Company: Spring Dance Works! The seven new dance works are accompanied by original music/sound created specifically for these dances by students in the Theatre Department’s Sound Design program. Experience the beauty of dance at the Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.

In Lafayette at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, this Saturday, April 30, listen to the Bach Chorale Singers perform “The Best of All Possible Worlds: Music of Leonard Bernstein”. Composer, conductor, pianist, educator, social activist…These are just a few of the titles ascribed to the most iconic American musician of the 20th century. Join the Bach Chorale Singers in a retrospective of Bernstein’s most celebrated music, including the Chichester Psalms, Missa Brevis, and excerpts from Candide, On the Town, and West Side Story.

Welcome to Agrabah, city of enchantment, where we’re about to begin the fantastic tale of the street rat who became a prince! All of your favorite characters from the hit Disney film – Aladdin, Jasmine, Iago, Jafar, the Genie, and more – are at the Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette in Disney’s ALADDIN JR, a musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides. Check out the daring fun this Friday, November 14, Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16.  Enjoy songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me!”

Music abounds! On Saturday, November 8, be prepared for some suspense and excitement as the Lafayette Symphony performs Shaken, Not Stirred at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Whether your favorite Bond actor is Sean Connery or Daniel Craig, there is no debate that the LSO’s Shaken, Not Stirred will leave you on the edge of your seat! The action-packed musical set will feature pianist, Thomas Pandolfi performing the James Bond Concerto and Addinsell’s Warsaw Concerto as he and the orchestra take you through a symphonic adventure full of espionage and mystery.

Who is MAME?  Find out this Friday, Saturday and Sunday when the Civic Theatre Presents: “Mame”.  Some of Mame’s wild, adventurous spirit is inside everyone who loves for the moment and believes that “life is a banquet!” It’s the height of the 1920’s and Auntie Mame becomes the guardian for her ten-year-old nephew, Patrick. Special songs include: Mame, It’s Today, Open a New Window, We Need a Little Christmas, Bosom Buddies and many more.  Her life is turned upside down, many of her priorities change, but she still lives life to the fullest!

Paint the Town this Saturday, May 10! See the music come alive this weekend at the Long Center for the Performing Arts as visual artist Rena Brouwer paints live on stage to the LSO’s performance of two Debussy classics: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and La Mer. Watch her painting and process unfold on the big-screen as she is inspired by the music. This concert will also feature images of the Lafayette area by our photography competition winners, brought to life by the LSO’s engaging performance of Barry’s Snapshot.
