Go Local – Nursery Art Decor, Clothing, and More!

Wall Art (2 flowers) from Grateful Heart Gallery

Wall Art (2 flowers) from Grateful Heart Gallery

I am excited to announce a big change coming in my life to all my readers!  I am pregnant! 36 weeks to be exact!  In 4 weeks my husband’s and my life will change forever.  For the last few months, we have been working on creating a nursery that is unique, comfortable and beautiful.

In March we found out we were having a girl, and with that news, I took my husband shopping at the local boutiques and art galleries located downtown Lafayette.  We had so much fun checking out the local pottery pieces, baby clothing, and decorative pieces.  Our first purchases were three pieces of ceramic pottery made into flowers. Local artist, Diane Gee, from the Grateful Heart Gallery, created these amazing works of art.  (See photo to the right.)  We wanted to add a bit of girly charm to the room and also keep it fresh and airy.  The flowers are delicate and simple and really complete the room.

Outfit from Two Tulips!

My mother in-law also went on a shopping expedition, and for Mother’s Day gave me the cutest outfit from Two Tulips.  My in-laws had 2 boys, so they are so excited to have a little girl coming into the family.  This outfit (see photo to the left) is adorable!  We cannot wait to dress her up in it!

Also, my own mother has hinted that someone coming to the baby shower in July has purchased a baby calendar book that Two Tulips sells.  This calendar helps parents keep track of major events in the child’s life in a daily/weekly/yearly log.  There are cute stickers and places to write about her first steps, first words, etc.  I saw the calendar when I first found out I was pregnant, and I have had it on my wish list.  It is so cute, and best of all, it makes keeping track of all the major events a very easy task.  Our life is going to be changed forever when this baby is born and any help keeping things simple and easy is key!

Baby room 2Lafayette-West Lafayette is home to so many great local shops.  The items I have purchased for our little girl, I hope some day she can pass down to her children and so forth.  I, myself, have things my grandmothers and great aunts got me when I was a little girl, and they hold so much meaning.

Next time you are visiting Lafayette-West Lafayette, make sure you check out all our wonderful shops!  For more information visit

Purdue University Art Galleries

Global-Matrix Exhibit

2 Great Cities, 1 Great University, Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard!  Vacation, Relaxation, Fun; one image that comes into our heads is sand, sun and water.  Locals travel south to find their peace and quiet, while adventure, history, the arts and entertainment, and more, can be found in our own backyard.   Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is home to the Purdue University Art Galleries.

When people think of Purdue University I imagine the first things that come to mind are either agriculture, science or sports (which would be what would stand out to my husband!).  Purdue boasts they have educated some of the best minds of history including Neil Armstrong and Amelia Earhart, which is a boast to be reckoned with.  There is one area of Purdue that  I believe many people are not aware of. It hosts 3 art galleries; the Robert L. Ringel Gallery at the Purdue Memorial Union, the Stewart Center Gallery at the Stewart Center and the Patti and the Rusty Rueff Galleries at the Yue-Kong Pao Hall.

Throughout the year, traveling exhibits are on display at these galleries.  Currently, the Robert L. Ringel Gallery and the Stewart Center Gallery are host to the international print exhibit, Global Matrix III, a contemporary review of fine art printmaking in all media from around the world. To date, the Global Matrix exhibits have featured a total of 165 works representing 142 individual artists from 31 countries around the world.

The Rusty Rueff Galleries have the unique perspective of being a teaching and research space for students and faculty of the Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts.  Currently, the exhibit on display is “Photoworks 2012” and on January 23, the upcoming exhibit is “The Wicked World of Design”.  I enjoy this gallery for the fact that the artwork is created by students at Purdue learning, cultivating and sharing their artistic talent.
