Beyond the Vine Wine Tour

The Visitor Information Specialists at the Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette Visitor’s Center were given the fun opportunity to go on a Beyond the Vine Wine Tour. They truly enjoyed their experience and want to share three reasons why you should consider taking the tour! Read their review:

We arrived on a cold Sunday afternoon prepared to experience the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour. It was a day full of friendship and fine wines, and we would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys tasting wine, relaxation, and unique experiences. Below are the top three reasons why you should consider booking a Beyond the Vine Wine Tour.

1. Stress-Free and Relaxing

The first reason is because of how stress-free and relaxing your time on the bus will be because of the preparation of Jill Smit. She takes time to consider every detail of your day and has each detail planned and prepared perfectly. Simply book your reservation and let Jill take care of the rest! From the timeline of the day to paying for everything in advance, all you have to do is show up (and bring your ID!). Jill arrives on time and with the bus stocked full of a cooler, wine themed decor, and a playlist of your choice. Guests are welcome to bring their own food on board the bus or you have the option of a delicious boxed lunch from Great Harvest Bread Co. Of course, with Jill driving the bus, you are able to taste and enjoy all the wine you wish without worrying about driving home. All these factors combined create a relaxing, stress-free experience.

2. Great Wine and Great People

Another awesome perk of the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour is knowing that the wineries you are visiting have been tested and approved by many tasters before you. Our visit began with a tasting at Whyte Horse Winery in Monticello, IN. Here we tasted five different wines ranging from sweet to dry and three of their specialty drinks including an apple cider slushy. You must visit at Christmas time when the winery is decorated beautifully with Christmas trees and lights. Next on our tour was Carpenter Creek Cellars. It is located in Remington, IN and is one of the best wineries around. With world-class award-winning wines, this stop is a must. You will be treated to a tour of the facilities where you can see where all the wine is produced and corked, and taste every single wine listed on the menu. And don’t forget to say hi to the winery dog, Port! Our final stop was Hooker Corner Winery where we had 5 different tastings as well as mulled wine an

d a mulled wine slushy. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine while viewing the quiet countryside. These are only three of the several options of wineries in the area, and the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour also offers options to visit local breweries. One thing all three wineries had in common were people passionate about wine. These winemakers love to talk about wine and share their wealth of knowledge with guests entering their doors. You will definitely feel that on the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour.

Having fun on the bus!

3. Unique and Fun

The final reason to experience the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour is because it is fun! This is a unique experience to safely support locally owned Indiana wineries and have fun doing it. You can trust that each stop has something unique and different to offer and expand your understanding of Indiana wines. It is the perfect way to celebrate a bachelorette party, a fun date night, or even a mother-daughter day out. Even if for no other reason than because you like to drink wine, the Beyond the Vine Wine Tour is for you!

So, if you are looking for something fun to do and like supporting local business, then check out the Beyond the Vine Wine Tours. We had a fantastic experience and recommend it to any visitor or local in the area. You will board the bus as a guest and leave as a friend.

“One Great Wedding Destination” The Outpost

Outpost2014.22 Great Cities, 1 Great University, “One Great Wedding Destination”. Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is home to many fabulous wedding ceremony and reception venues that will make your day special. One such location that not only offers a great space to have a wedding but also a wonderful catering menu is The Outpost Catering and Banquet Facility. They offer some of the best customer service in town with delicious food and space for wedding parties up to 300 people!

It’s fall, which means we are in the midst of wedding season! Mums, pumpkins, the earthy, musty smell of falling leaves, harvest, clear blue skies, and more; this is what I think of fall! Is there a better time for a wedding? Not that I can think of! I have been to so many fall weddings, and I have to say it is my favorite season to attend someone’s special event. (You may note I did not get married in the fall, but I married a farmer and fall is off limits! ha!)

A few years ago in October, one of my dearest friends had a great big outdoor wedding.  When I say big, I should really say “huge!” They invited over 700 people and of those invited I would say almost 100% showed up. The Outpost catered the event, and they did an amazing job! The menu included pulled pork barbeque, baked potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw. The Outpost came with their big outdoor cooker and slowly cooked the BBQ to perfection. It literally melted in my mouth and the compliment of loaded potato salad, savory baked beans and crisp cole slaw was heaven! I shouldn’t admit this, but I went back for seconds! My good friend shared how wonderful the staff was to work with. Wedding planning can be stressful and she said their great customer care made her event run smoothly and relieved so much of her stress.

The Outpost Catering also has a banquet facility for rental for special events. They offer complete food service, whether it be plated or buffet, and also a full bar service with licensed bartenders. They can accommodate an event anywhere from 25-300 guests. The space is a blank canvas so brides and grooms can decorate and make it into the perfect memory-making site of their dreams. I have never attended a wedding at this venue, but we did host our National Tourism Week Social Media Workshop at this facility. The food was delicious and the customer service was exceptional.

Holiday Brunch at The Trails Banquet Facility!

Happening Now! Right now, the talk around town is about all the special holidays coming up the next few months! Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will be here before we know it and we recommend getting reservations now for one of Lafayette’s top holiday (and Sunday) brunch destinations, the Trails Banquet Facility! Serving everything from crepes and omelets made to order, prime rib, ham and turkey carving stations, and a dessert bar that makes my mouth water thinking about it; the Trails offers a fresh, delicious meal.

With Easter coming up this week, it has made me nostalgic of past Easter celebrations at the Trails. My husband’s family has a tradition of going out for brunch after church service on Easter. Our first Easter brunch as a couple was at the Trails. It was a momentous event not only for the food, but I met some of his cousins for the first time. Meeting family members for the first time can be a bit nerve racking, but thankfully we were so excited to enjoy the delicious food it kept the conversation easy and light!

Wow, did we enjoy the food! The ham (which is an Easter must-have!) was juicy, tender with the perfect bit of saltiness.  Add their creamy mashed potatoes, sweet carrots (some of the best carrots I have ever eaten!), a garden salad made with the freshest vegetables and a mimosa; let the enjoyment begin! And this is only a small portion of what they offer. My husband always gets an omelet loaded with his favorites; ham, bacon, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and salsa. He loads his plate up with the light and fluffy biscuits smothered in gravy along with corned beef hash, assorted cheese and pasta salad. (Odd combination, but he loves it!)

Did I mention the dessert? Diners cannot go home without trying one of their crepes they cook right in front of you! I always get my favorite flavor, cherry, but they also offer blueberry and apple. Their dessert bar includes bread pudding, cobblers, cinnamon rolls, assorted cheesecakes, assorted pies, assorted cakes, cookies, ice cream, and sugar free desserts. There is something for everyone or should I say “somethings” as I never leave without tasting a few desserts!

With all these fun holidays on the horizon, make sure you call the Trails for a reservation.  They book up quickly! Please note their Easter hours are 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Whether you are looking for delicious dining, interesting attractions and shops, enticing events or home away from home lodging—a getaway to Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is sure to satisfy. For more information about this banquet facility and others in the area, visit our website at
