For Your Next Lunch Gathering, Head to Jane’s Gourmet!

IMG_5020For a quaint, delicious and pretty healthy lunch, Jane’s Gourmet Deli is the place to go! Open for lunch Monday through Saturday from 10:30am until 2:00pm, Jane’s will make any lunch date the best. Located downtown Lafayette on 4th street, Jane’s is not only a perfect little lunch spot but also has a store for gourmet gifts. For a locally owned and operated experience, this is the place to see!

IMG_5006I recently went for a lunch date with a few girlfriends to Jane’s. This was the first time two of us had ever been here. Be cautious of the one way roads, the parking lot is located right in front of the building. There is a little patio outside, however it was a bit cold for anyone to sit outside when we visited. When you walk in you step right into the store portion. As we sat ourselves in the cute and relaxing dining room, we were greeted by a sweet waitress. As we leisurely chatted, we were served our food.

I ordered a hot Panini called Panini rustica. There was one side option as well so I choose the cream of spinach soup. My Panini was nice and warm with gooey, melted cheese, which got all over my hands. (Definitely not upset about that!) I dipped my sandwich into the soup, and wow, what a blast of flavors! While this meal was delicious it was also pretty healthy! All of their soups are made from scratch! When you dine at Jane’s you know you are getting the best possible locally produced and organic ingredients whenever they are available.

IMG_4997Jane’s is not only a great spot for lunch, but also a great place to purchase gourmet gifts. The variety of items that are available range from cheese and wine, to sauces and spreads to bath and body items. Many of these items are sourced from local places such as the cheese from Fair Oaks Farms.

In addition to all listed above, Jane will cater or host your next event. With a large dining room available to rent, Jane can help make your special day the best it can be. If you do not want to have to worry about details such as table settings and menu planning, then this is the place to book. Also, off-site parties can be catered to as well!

IMG_5004For your next lunch gathering, head to Jane’s for an overall great experience. Feel good about what you are putting into your body as well as supporting a local business. Follow Jane’s on Facebook to stay up to date on specials and much more! The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30am until 2:00pm. The store is open from 8:30am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday and until 2:00pm on Saturday.

Weekend Update: Purdue Jazz Festival & Rainmaker

RainmakerWeekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in or near Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

We are so excited! This weekend is Purdue Jazz Festival! Purdue University Bands & Orchestras will be featuring jazz ensembles all weekend long.  One special musical event taking place at Purdue Convocations is DIVA Jazz Orchestra on January 22.  This 15-woman big band is pushing traditional boundaries of jazz and swing to their outermost limits and “transcending boundaries of time and style” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Led by drummer and music director Dr. Sherrie Maricle—who has kept a brisk pace for the New York City-based ensemble since it was founded in 1992—the DIVA Jazz Orchestra has held court everywhere from clubs to Carnegie Hall, dazzled international crowds in Paris, Rome, and Berlin, fired up audiences at Tanglewood and the Montreal Jazz Festival, and now makes a very special return engagement to the Purdue Jazz Festival. With its signature blend of musical genius and bold personalities, DIVA is inspiring a new generation of young, female jazz musicians and reconstituting Songbook standards—from a stunning half-time appropriation of “What the World Needs Now” to “76 Trombones,” spun out from a show tune into a showcase for smoking solos. With roaring sound, tight pockets, a sublime swing, and chops for days, the DIVA Jazz Orchestra lets its music do the talking.

Across the Wabash River, more arts abound in Lafayette. The Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette presents Rainmaker on January 22-24.  At the time of a paralyzing drought in the West you will discover a girl whose father and two brothers are worried as much about her potential future as an old maid as they are about their dying cattle. For the truth is, she is indeed a plain girl. The brothers try every possible scheme to marry her off, but without success. Nor is there any sign of relief from the dry heat, when suddenly from out of nowhere appears a picaresque, sweet-talking man with quite the sales pitch. Claiming to be a “rainmaker,” the man promises to bring rain, for $100. It’s a silly idea, but the rainmaker is so refreshing and persistent that the family finally consents, banging on big brass drums to rattle the sky. Meanwhile the rainmaker also turns his magic on the girl, and persuades her that she has a very real beauty of her own. She believes it, just as her father believes the fellow can actually bring rain. Rain does come, and so does love.

On Saturday night, make it a date night at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. The Kentucky Opera joins the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra in a concert version of The Marriage of Figaro, an irrelevant romantic comedy. The philandering Count Almaviva plans to sully the marriage of Figaro and the lovely Susanna – but not if they have anything to say about it. Add an uptight Countess, a pubescent pageboy, and music by Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte, and you have a recipe for a delightful evening of light-hearted scandal.
