Since 1990, Lafayette Ballet Company has been performing the full-length NUTCRACKER in early January at Long Center. For 2019 the company presents their complete ballet on Jan. 5 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM, and on Jan. 6 at 2 PM. The sumptuous Tchaikovsky music, the brilliant costumes and sets, the energetic dancing of 40 dancers, and the classic story of a young girl’s dreams are a treat for all ages. Tickets go on sale December 3, 2018 at Lafayette Ballet – 628 Main Street, 47901.
More entertainment is happening Jan. 4 at 9 PM. People’s Live presents: Pickin’ Pear with Naomi Rae at the Knickerbocker Saloon. Tia Martini and Leon Elam – The Pickin’ Pear – branch out from Canyon Collected to create a folk ‘n’ roll duo. They combine their non-traditional stylings to their traditional instruments and create an original mix of modern American music. Together the Pickin’ Pear take the banjo and ukulele down the road of folk, rock, and bluegrass. Sometimes the ukulele will even launch you straight to outer space. A blend of top-notch songwriting and improvisational jamming makes each one of their songs sound unique.

Back by popular demand, the Lafayette Ballet Company presents the full-length ballet of the Nutcracker on January 10 and 11. Music by P.I.Tchaikovsky, and luscious period costumes and sets highlighted by the exuberant dancing of the young Lafayette Ballet Artists along with guest artists and graduates. Magic comes alive as dancers use grace and harmony to dance to music created in the 1800s by the famous Russian composer Tchaikovsky.
Have you ever heard of the famous Brandenburg Concert by J.S. Bach? It is a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier). They are widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era. The Tippecanoe Chamber Music Society presents Brandenburg on Sunday, January 11 and this concert will brighten our souls in this rare performance of these most beloved works.

Guest blogger, Visitor Information Specialist, Marlene, shares her experience at the Lafayette Ballet Company.
I was able to attend a free event at the Lafayette Ballet Company’s Ballroom at 226 N. 6th Street in the Murdock Building. The white glazed terra cotta building from 1913 is a gorgeous representation of our historical local architecture. The Ball Room is located on the 3rd floor and is a uniquely large space with its lighted dome and arched windows. Director, Sandra Peticolas, formed the Lafayette Ballet Company in 1989.
The dancers and performers brought Dr. Seuss’s stories of The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back to life in the form of ballet.
Polly, who works at the local library, read the stories. While she read the stories, the company of young dancers portrayed the stories through their fun costumes and ballet dancing. A few times a year, the Lafayette Ballet Company will offer free performances to see their students perform. In order to attend, you must reserve tickets, because there is limited seating.
