Into the Woods runs at the Lafayette Civic Theatre this lovely weekend! Have you ever wondered what the lives of your favorite fairytale characters were really like? James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim bring together these characters for a timeless yet relevant piece and a modern classic. Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood… Everyone’s wishes are granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later. The 29th Annual Purdue Jazz Festival is this weekend on January 19th! From 8:30 AM to 6 PM, high school and middle school instrumental jazz ensembles from five states will arrive early on Purdue’s Campus for the Purdue Jazz Festival. It will stretch throughout the day in nine performance venues in the Purdue Stewart Center, Purdue Memorial Union, and Pao Hall. You will love enjoying the amazing talent that these students have! For further details, you can check here. These events will be free and open to the public in addition to clinics provided by all of the festival guest artists on Saturday.

Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by?  This is the weekend we have been waiting for in Lafayette-West Lafayette because it is full of exciting, entertaining festivals that will bring joy and laughter to so many people.

Get a preview of the 46th Feast of the Hunters’ Moon at this year’s Feast Sampler taking place this Saturday, August 24 from 1 to 5pm.  Visitors will enjoy hands-on family activities, discover the Native American Village, explore the Blockhouse trading post, and talk to voyageurs to learn about life on the rivers in the 1700s.  Come learn about 18th-century crafts such as blacksmithing and tatting. There will be quiet relaxing music from the Dulcimers Gathering and loud marching music with the Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. This is a great way to be outside with friends and family and learn about local history. Admission is free and open to the public.

After an early afternoon of “feast” tasting, join in the festive fun during the Beers Across the Wabash Brewfest taking place from 1-5pm at the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge.  30 Indiana Breweries will be serving ales and lagers for the crowds of people to taste and compare the aromas, textures, and hops.  The festival started in 2012 and was acclaimed a great success and is back again to satisfy the masses!  Tickets are $35/person.

The day isn’t complete without putting on your dancing shoes and heading a few blocks east of the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge to the Uptown Jazz & Blues Festival.  From 5pm to midnight, local, regional and national touring acts will perform on 3 different stages, and local breweries and eateries will be serving their special signature items.  The night is filled with laughter and a sense of great happiness as visitors enjoy the serenity of lovely music, camaraderie with others, and delicious food.  Advance tickets are $10 and same day tickets are $15.

Weekend Update!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway?  Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by?  Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

This is the weekend of festival fun in Lafayette-West Lafayette!  On Saturday, August 25, from noon to 4pm, come out to taste an assortment of ales and lagers from 30 Indiana Breweries during the 1st Annual Beers Across the Wabash.  D&R Market, Lafayette Optimist Club, Sgt. Preston’s and Big Cheese will be providing delicious food to partake while sipping your beer.  There will be seminars featuring beer and chocolate and cheese that will be educational and entertaining.  Visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of the Wabash River as they stroll across the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge.

After tasting the diverse beer selections, walk down to 5th and Main Street, downtown Lafayette, for the Uptown Jazz & Blues Festival taking place from 4pm to midnight. There will be three stages of hot jazz and cool blues along with delicious tastings from local eateries.  Not only can you rock to the music, but folks usually cannot help but sway and dance to the tunes.  (My husband had to pull me off the dance floor two years ago!)

This Saturday, April 28, take part in “Amazing Race Lafayette-West Lafayette” at Riehle Plaza, Downtown Lafayette!  The race is a chance to enjoy, explore and engage in the community.  Just like the TV version, two person teams will race in “heats” from destination to destination, completing tasks and challenges throughout Lafayette-West Lafayette in hopes of winning. Teams will compete for top prizes including the Grand Prize Package valued over $1000, including two Apple iPads! Do not miss this exciting fundraising event to benefit New Community School.

In West Lafayette, Indiana, enjoy “Jazz on the Hill” this Sunday, April 29.  Four jazz bands present an upbeat and eclectic mix of jazz music. Bring your lawn chairs and a picnic to listen to the merry music outdoors at Slayter Center.  What can be better than an afternoon of sun, music and picnic delights!

Duncan Hall

In Lafayette, Indiana, this Friday, March 2, come out to listen to the group Friends of Bob present “Joy Kills Sorrow”.   With a foot firmly planted in its bluegrass roots, the band’s name is a play on the call letters of the Indiana radio station that broadcast the Monroe Brothers in the 1930s.  Joy Kills Sorrow’s influences from the worlds of jazz, pop, swing and rock are clearly felt in it polished arrangements.  This special event is taking place at the historic, Georgian, colonial-style building, Duncan Hall.

The Linden String Quartet & Michael Brown, Piano concert will please guests this Saturday, March 3 at Loeb Playhouse located on Purdue University Campus.  This “laureate concert” will feature two recent winners of the 2010 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, The Linden String Quartet, currently the graduate string quartet-in-residence at the Yale School of Music, has been praised for its “remarkable depth of technique and brilliantly nuanced sumptuous tonality… delivered with a palpable, infectious joy.”

Classical Music & Purdue Jazz Band

In Lafayette, Indiana, this Friday evening, enjoy a solo evening of Shurbert, Schumann, and Chopin performed by Russian pianist, Vassily Primakov.  Vassily Primakov has been hailed as a pianist of world class importance and Lafayette is proud to welcome him back for his third visit.  He takes the stage at the Long Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30pm on February 10.

On Saturday, February 11, celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early during the “Evening of Romance with Purdue Jazz Band” at the Four Points by Sheraton in West Lafayette. It will be an evening with a candlelit cabaret featuring music for dancing and listening. Guest vocalist is Purdue Musical Organization’s (PMO), Bill Griffel.  Not to be missed is a dessert buffet that will feature an array of decadent delights!
