Dare to Bear & The Lollipop Concert

Weekend Update!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

Feel daring this weekend?  This Friday, February 1, start the month off being adventurous at “Dare to Bear” at the Riverside Skating Center.  You may ask, what exactly does “Dare to Bear” entail?  It is a polar bear skate in which participants wear bathing suits.  Please note Riverside Skating Center is OUTDOORS!  February in Indiana is a bit chilly (to say the least), and this event will definitely be a venture!  Personally, I will not be participating, but I will be an active fan on the sidelines cheering on those who do!

Looking for a special event for children?  In Lafayette on Friday, February 1, bring your children to Long Center for the Performing Arts for “The Lollipop Concert“. The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra is hosting a night of fun for children of all ages to learn about the instruments of the orchestra through two captivating musical stories. Journey from the jungle to the big city with Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant. Then, dive into an action packed story of American history with Peck’s Jack and Jill at Bunker Hill. Arrive early for the Instrument Petting Zoo!

Feast of the Hunters’ Moon & Starry Night Music Festival

2 Great Festivals, 1 Great Weekend Update!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway?  Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by?  Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

Start your weekend off right, by attending the annual “Starry Night Music Festival” at Purdue University, Friday, September 21 at 6:30pm!  This street festival is heavy on music, art, social issues, conversations and a really good time. This year the line-up includes nationally touring bands, Farewell Flight and Deas Vail, along with some great regional acts.  While you listen to the energetic music, you can browse a wide variety of art and goods, available for purchase, including caricatures, funky clothes & jewelry, sculptures made from appliances, coffee, music, and more.  The best part is the awesome festival if free!

Feast Food

This Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23, is a time to enjoy history, culture and wood smoked, authentic food at the annual “Feast of the Hunters’ Moon“!  The Feast brings thousands of participants to the banks of the Wabash River to re-create the annual fall gathering of the French and Native Americans which took place at Fort Ouiatenon, a fur-trading outpost in the mid 1700s. The weekend is truly a feast for your senses.  As soon as you arrive you smell the wood smoke and hear the sizzle of food being roasted.  Your senses will burst as the blasts of the rifles periodically go off.  The Feast of the Hunters’ Moon is celebrating 45 years of re-enactments, so do not miss all the fun!

Fourth of July Independence Day Celebration

Holiday Happenings!  This Wednesday is the Fourth of July and we are ready in Lafayette-West Lafayette to celebrate independence and freedom in our wonderful country, the United States of America!  Locally, regionally, and nationally, our country observes this day of liberty through parades, fireworks and more.

Visitors, in-town and out-of-town, are welcome to join the celebration in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, at the Annual Fourth of July Stars & Stripes Celebration taking place at Riehle Plaza.  This festive occasion will feature a concert by multiple local entertainers: Lafayette Citizens Band, the Greater Lafayette Freedom Singers, the Purdue University Summer Jazz Band, the Indiana All-Star High School Show Choir and the Tippecanoe Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. Once the sun sets, a 25 minute fireworks display will be launched from the banks of the Wabash River dazzling the crowds with the beautiful array of colors!

Fourth of July is a national holiday that is a favorite of many.  One of my dearest friends, Lindsey, has shared it is her favorite holiday of the year.  She explains it is a day where there is only excitement in the air.  People are joyous to visit with friends, cook delicious food on the grill, enjoy the summer heat, and watch amazing fireworks light up the sky.  It is also a day to acknowledge we live in a free country where we can be anything we want to be.  We live in a wonderful country and we should be so proud to call ourselves “Americans”.
