Legendary Weekend Update: Robin Hood & Purdue Bug Bowl

Weekend Update!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun (and legendary!) events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

Make legendary memories at the annual Purdue Bug Bowl!  The annual Bug Bowl is the largest known insect event of its kind. Nearly 30,000 people attend this event each year as part of Purdue’s Spring Fest weekend taking place April 13 and 14. Preschoolers through retirees take part in numerous hands-on insect activities including the cricket spitting contest and cockroach racing at Roachill Downs.  The cricket spitting contest is where memories are made because there is nothing funnier than watching your friends spit a cricket as far as possible.  It is hilarious!  Also, do not miss running or walking at the Challenge 5K Run/Walk, benefitting the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research, on Saturday, April 13. Purdue will be a “legendary” place this weekend!

Watch the legendary legend, Robin Hood, in a never-ending quest to aid the needy at the Lafayette Civic Theatre this Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14.  The Lafayette Civic Youth Theatre will perform this comedy that will leave visitors laughing with delight.  This show is full of flavorful characters: lovely damsel-in-distress (oddly obsessed with skin conditions); an ever-scheming sheriff who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull’s-eye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monarch wannabe; and a good-natured “Town’s Guy” who manages to make his way into every scene, whether he belongs there or not. Combine them with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you are in for an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest.

The Fox on the Fairway & 8th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

All weekend long guests can enjoy “The Fox on the Fairway” taking place at the Lafayette Civic Theatre.  This production takes audiences on a hilarious romp which pulls the rug out from underneath the stuffy denizens of a private country club. Filled with mistaken identities, slamming doors, and over-the-top romantic shenanigans, it’s a furiously paced comedy that recalls the Marx Brothers’ classics.  Do  not miss this production taking place March 16-18, 2013.

Saturday, March 16, marks Greater Lafayette’s 8th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and for many marks a day of celebrating Irish heritage. The parade will start at Riehle Plaza in downtown Lafayette at 11 a.m. and will cross the pedestrian bridge into West Lafayette. A “best Irish” contest will be held at 10:45 a.m. Participants and spectators over the age of 21 can warm up beforehand with an Irish coffee at Tippecanoe County’s oldest Irish pub, Nine Irish Brothers, which opens at 10 a.m.

Weekend Update; Arts and Entertainment!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

Theater lovers, this is the weekend to visit Lafayette-West Lafayette as 2 wonderful performances are taking place.  In Lafayette, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (January 25-27), you are welcome to enjoy the production of “Arcadia” at the Civic Theatre. This brilliant play moves smoothly between the centuries and explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between classical and romantic temperaments, and “the disruptive influence of sex on our life orbits the attraction Newton left out.”

On Sunday, January 27, take the family out for an afternoon of laughs at “How I Became A Pirate” produced by the Omaha Theater Company at Loeb Playhouse located on Purdue Campus.  Shiver Me Timbers! Young Jeremy Jacob is digging in the sand at North Beach when he is greeted by Captain Braid Beard and his mates and recruited to help find the perfect digging spot for their treasure. In turn, Jeremy shares with them what a typical kid’s day is like and the wondrous game of soccer.  We recommend bringing the kids to the pre-show at 2:00 p.m. to create and color their own pirate hats!

Weekly marshals, chosen from local youth groups, will huddle with the team and join the walk across the bridge.   In addition, on Friday our Purdue Men’s Basketball Team takes on Northern Illinois and on Sunday our Purdue Women’s Basketball Team takes on IUPUI.  It is a sporting weekend for all!
