Schnitzel beef sandwiches, rollbraten pork sandwiches, beef goulach with buttered noodles, potato pancakes, homemade lentil soup, brats and more! Where can all of this be found along with a performance by the Polka Boys, a beer stein holding contest, casino games and more? St. Boniface Germanfest! This Saturday, September 8, join the German revelers as we dance, eat and make merry downtown Lafayette! Please note you may not be German in ethnicity, but you can be one in spirit as the celebration rocks and rolls! The event is $5 per person and those 21 and under are free. Germanfest is taking place from 4:30 to 11pm.

The County Fair is back at The Farm at Prophetstown on Saturday, September 8. Join in an exciting day on The Farm! Enjoy great music, food, games, vendors, demonstrations, antique tractors, the Gibson Farmhouse, and the Battle Ground Saddle Club will be on hand to show off different horse breeds! Enter their Pie Eating Contest at 12:00pm. Yum!  The event cost $5 per car, plus park admission and is taking place from 10am to 4pm.

Weekend Update: Friday Night Live & Celebrate Indiana! Outdoor Festival

Be entertained with fabulous music August 31 during the Friday Night Live: Lorie Amick, Family & Friends at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. This night of music will feature Lorie Amick and her talented family and friends. This hour long event will include musical styles from French Jazz to Pop to Boogie Woogie Piano. Nine musicians will amuse the audience with vocals, flute, violin, keyboard, drums, bass, harp guitar and even ukulele! This event is free and takes place from 7-8pm.

Haan Mansion Public Art

Celebrate Labor Day weekend this Saturday, September 1 at the Celebrate Indiana! Outdoor Festival at Haan Mansion Museum of Indiana Art. This festival promises fun for the entire family. The event will include multiple performances on the stage featuring Indiana composers and authors, artist demonstrations, a special new sculpture unveiling, lawn games, balloon animals, scavenger hunt, hands-on arts and nature activities, and food. Food available for purchase at the festival includes Arni’s pizza by the slice, EMT Food Truck, and Mary Lou Donuts. Admission to the festival is $10 for adults, $5 for youth (ages 5 to 17), and $25 for a family. Children ages 4 and under are free. This event takes place 12-4pm.

On August 25th from 10-2pm Tecumseh Junior High’s bus parking lot will be transformed into one of Lafayette’s most beloved family events of the year, Hands on Transportation! You won’t want to miss this year’s event to bring the family to explore vehicles of almost all shapes and sizes as well as the operators of these vehicles. The chance to pull on the horn of a massive off road pit hauler truck to the opportunity to sit in the bed of a monster truck give children a chance to touch things they only see on TV or rolling down the street serving our community. Come out and celebrate the Greater Lafayette area’s marvels of transportation. It is a delight to their staff, the operators of the vehicles and the children and families who visit.

Beers Across the Wabash

Join in the festive fun during Beers Across the Wabash taking place from 3-7pm at the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge on Saturday, August 25. In addition to delicious ales & lagers and one of the finest beer festival settings in the Midwest, general admission includes a commemorative sample cup along with with samples from the presenting breweries. On-site foodservice will also be available for purchase from D&R Catering, Smolder BBQ, Emergency Munchie Truck (EMT) and El Kora.

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. enjoy Wabash Riverfest.  Riverfest is an annual event that brings the community together and celebrates the living Wabash River with conservation exhibits, games, activities, canoe races, a 5K and a beer garden at the Plaza.  Riverfest annually draws around 5,000 participants and specifically teaches children about our most prized natural resource here in Greater Lafayette – the Wabash River – as it provides recreational focus, aesthetic beauty, and is a vital component of our economy. Wabash Riverfest will be in two locations: Tapawingo Park from 9 a.m.-4 p.m and Riehle Plaza from 12-6 p.m..

In the evening from 6 pm to 11 pm on Saturday, enjoy a night of fun at Mosey Down Main Street. Mosey is a series of street celebrations brought to you by the local artistic community. Volunteers, downtown business owners, artists and musicians come together once a month from May through September to offer a free, family friendly event that takes place right down the center of Main Street. With three stages of music, outdoor food, beer, and wine sales as well as street performers, sidewalk chalk and hand made Hula hoops, Drum circles and D.J.’s, belly dancers, and balloon animals.

Head to West Lafayette this Saturday, September 30 for the Starry Night annual street festival.  This special event draws thousands of people with its unique blend of excellent music, a variety of merchants, interactive creativity, and food. The festival is designed to bring people together around the thread of story and seeks to expose the public to the cause of literacy through the local initiative Read to Succeed. Starry Night is hosted by Campus House and Greyhouse Coffee and, thanks to their generous sponsors, is FREE. Please come be a part of this amazing night!IMG_7822

A festival that is “tradition” and “celebration” to those from the area and beyond is the Feast of the Hunters’ Moon, taking place on the banks of the Wabash River on September 30 and October 1.  The Feast is a re-creation of the annual fall gathering of the French and Native American which took place at Fort Ouiatenon, a fur-trading outpost in the mid 1700s. It is held annually in early autumn four miles southwest of West Lafayette. Thousands of participants re-enact this event creating a feast for your senses. Smell the wood smoke, hear the report of the rifles, savor authentic food and more. Come and celebrate it’s 50th anniversary!

Looking for a relaxed and lovely way to spend a few hours of your day on Saturday, September 16? Head over to the Morton Community Center for the special event, Global Fest. This is a day of celebration as we embrace the many cultures in our community. It’s a friendly street festival with great music, global food samplings and crafts from around the world just waiting to be purchased.  Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette President Jo Wade shares, “Always a great event for a variety of international food and entertainment. Walking through the classrooms full of international products/gifts to be purchased is always a treat.” Admission is free.

More fun is coming this Saturday, September 16!  Head downtown for the annual special event, OUTfest. The theme for OUTfest 2017 is Stand Strong! The afternoon and evening will feature live bands and DJs, local food vendors, information booths, beer gardens, a family area, dancing, light hearted drag entertainment, extended hours for some local downtown businesses, and much more! The fee to enter is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Bring the family out to Exploration Acres for their Tippecanoe & Bluegrass Too! festival.  From10am-10pm rock out to music featuring: Bahler’s Golden Age Band, Battleground Bluegrass Band, Borrowed Tyme, Branded Bluegrass, and Cornfields & Crossroads. Bring your own lawn chairs as you enjoy this outdoor event in the woods. (Note: if rain, the event will be moved to the barn.) Craft beer and concessions will be available.

The 39th Annual Wabash River Ride will be held on Saturday, August  from 7-5 p.m. Get out your bike for well organized and supported rides of 34, 47, 65 or 105 miles through some of the most beautiful parts of Tippecanoe, Fountain and Warren counties. Enjoy scenic vistas of the Wabash River and Big Pine Creek. There are great routes for riders of all levels, and it isn’t just corn fields you’ll be viewing! To fuel your ride, the Wabash River Cycle Club will have a wonderful selection of edibles available. They will continue their renowned tradition of home baked cookies from their club members, and have a delicious barbecue lunch planned for you when you finish the ride.

Come out and cheer on the canoe teams compete and embrace our beautiful river!

It’s a night to watch a classic! Watch Grease on film at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, July 8. Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz ’50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned this long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash into the biggest blockbuster of 1978.1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their “Summer Nights” falling in love, but once fall comes, it’s back to Rydell High and its cliques. Come to the Long Center and watch Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding “You’re the One That I Want” at the climactic carnival.

IMG_0358Craft Beer Lovers and/or the Craft Beer-curious that are 21+ this event is for you! Join fellow Tippecanoe Arts Federation supporters at the TAP for TAF Craft Beer Fest! TAP for TAF is an event highlighting the growing interest in craft beers and craft microbreweries. This special event takes place at the top floor of the 2nd Street Parking Garage in Downtown Lafayette on Saturday, April 8 Please note non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Families, couples, any and all, head to Purdue University for a day of science, agriculture, entomology and more at the annual event showcasing the lighter side of higher education; Spring Fest! This free event, taking place April 8 and 9, is a great opportunity to learn about animals, art, astronomy and much more in two full days of hands-on activities. It’s part education, part entertainment, and all fun! Make sure you head to the cricket spitting area…it is an activity you will never forget!
