Call me crazy, but I love the cold weather. The chilly weather means the holidays are coming, and one of my favorite parts of the holidays is shopping for little stocking stuffers.
Thankfully, Lafayette-West Lafayette is home to several local shops full of unique stocking stuffers for every type of person.
For the Fashionista
Juniper is a great place to shop for those who’d love a little fashion in their stocking. Located in the Wabash Landing Shopping Center, the boutique offers trendy pieces for an affordable price. I recommend checking out their patterned scrunchies. Scrunchies are super popular this year, and Juniper’s are covered in pretty patterns and colors. I also really love their fun socks. They have a ton of options to choose from, so you are sure to find a pair that matches everyone’s personality. What’s the best part? Both of these items will fit perfectly into your budget and a trendsetter’s stocking.
For the Bookworm
Von’s Book Shop is so much more than a book shop. Their shelves are full of small gifts like beaded necklaces, mix-and-match stick incense, fun-shaped sunglasses, and tie dye headbands. They also have a huge comic book section. You could check out the first edition of “Stranger Things” or something more classic like “Wonder Woman.” Comic books are great stocking stuffers for those who love superheroes (and villains), action-packed graphics, and adventure.
Main Street Books is another local shop that offers a wide selection of titles, both new and used, to choose from. Their selection is mainly made up of fiction, but they do have a small selection of non-fiction as well. The staff is friendly and always willing to help pick out that perfect book.
For the Sweet Tooth
Kathy’s Kandies is locally owned and full of fresh, homemade sweets located right on Main Street. Chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-covered cherries, truffles, peanut butter cups, and Oreo bark are just a few of the chocolate confections available at Kathy’s Kandies. Kathy’s Kandies also offers gummies, licorice, and gourmet popcorn that comes in a variety of different flavors. I recommend buying a different kind of popcorn for each stocking. This gives you the perfect excuse to snag a little popcorn from everyone on Christmas morning.
McCord Candies is another candy store located on Main Street. Each year, McCord Candies produces handmade candy canes to sell during the holiday season (they also offer candy cane tours for visitors to see the candy cane making process). Since the candy canes don’t contain any preservatives, their texture is unique and completely different than the candy canes you would buy at a grocery store.
For the Purdue Fanatic
Follett’s Purdue Bookstore is generally regarded as a textbook store, but it is also great place to shop for Purdue apparel and accessories. They have a number of small gifts ranging from coasters to Purdue golf balls. Follett’s also carries decals for moms, dads, alumni, and current students. They are both movable and reusable, so you won’t have to worry about sticking it on straight in one try.
The Purdue Team Store has several categories to choose from like tailgate accessories, car accessories, and kitchenware. You can find bottle opener keychains, wine glasses, and license plate frames with the Purdue logo. There are also two shopping locations, Purdue Memorial Union and Ross-Ade Stadium, to choose from.
No matter who you are shopping for, the local shops have you covered. For more information on these local shops or other shops in the Lafayette-West Lafayette area, visit HomeofPurdue.com

The end of freshman year of college usually brings bittersweet goodbyes, anticipation for three months of no class attendance and exams, and hopes of working out hard enough to lose the “Freshman 15.” For Gabby Gary, on the other hand, the summer after her freshman year was spent building her own business from the ground up. Fast forward, Gabby has graduated from Purdue and has the full-time job of owner and chief buyer of Dawson & Daisy.
Dawson & Daisy’s West Lafayette store is located in Wabash Landing Shopping Center.
While Gabby’s family currently resides in the West Lafayette-Lafayette area, she was born in New Orleans and moved around a lot throughout her childhood. While she has had many “hometowns,” Gabby says that the south is where she feels most at home. That is why in Dawson & Daisy’s Instagram bio the boutique is described as, “unique with a southern edge.” The unique part comes into play with the quantity of items that Gabby stocks in the store to ensure that every customer feels special in the clothes they purchase from Dawson & Daisy since they won’t see 10 other people wearing the same thing.
Dawson & Daisy originally started as an online-only operation run out of the Gary’s home. During the summer after Gabby’s freshman year at Purdue, the Gary’s had vacation plans that did not allow Gabby ample time to also have an internship. She decided to explore her passion for fashion that summer when she realized that it was absolutely possible for her to start her own online boutique. After a year of growing a loyal customer base, Dawson & Daisy became a brick-and-mortar boutique in May 2017. Six months later, it moved to a larger retail space in Wabash Landing Shopping Center in West Lafayette. In December 2017, she opened opened a Broad Ripple Bungalow location.
Dawson & Daisy provides unique options for Daisies all around West Lafayette and Lafayette.
Men can find clothing and accessories options at Dawson & Daisy as well.
The Little Buds collection offers adorable seasonal options for all of the babies and toddlers in your life.
Originally, the store was going to just be called, “Daisy.” However, Dawson joined the picture when Gabby knew that she wanted a boutique that would cater to both women and men. The Daisy section offers women tops, bottoms, and dresses perfect for going to class or for your next date night. The Dawson section offers men comfortable t-shirts, sweatpants, and accessories. The home decor sections offers candles and signs to accent your living spaces. Finally, the beauty section features bath products and makeup to help spruce up your self care routine.
For Gabby, as chief buyer, trends are not important when she is deciding what to carry in her store. She explains, “I am all about classic style…I try to buy things that will extend your hard-earned money.”
It’s all in the details when you visit Dawson & Daisy… even the fitting rooms are aesthetically pleasing!
The Boutique Experience
Imagine having an entire boutique to yourself and an associate to act as your own personal shopper during your entire trip. That is the experience you have when you step into Dawson & Daisy. In addition to having unique, one-of-a-kind items, Dawson & Daisy hopes to differentiate itself with outstanding customer service that matches the South’s standards of hospitality.
One of Gabby’s favorite memories with a customer was when she helped a mother and a daughter pick the perfect outfits for the daughter’s senior pictures. It took some trial-and-error, but Gabby could tell that her attention to detail and determination to find the perfect combination made the daughter feel incredibly special. That is the experience that Gabby hopes every customer has when they visit one of Dawson & Daisy’s boutiques.

A rainbow of colors pop as you approach the field. Sunflowers tower high, looking toward the sun. A friendly bee buzzes from one flower to the next pollinating the beautiful flowers. A butterfly gently flaps its wings as it rests on a petal. Life is peaceful, quiet and calm here at 21 Petals, a new flower farm in Lafayette.
My family and I visited this farm and thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the experience. We have a 5 ½ month old and happened to forget the stroller that day, but it was no problem as it wasn’t too far to walk from the car. We just took turns holding her. The owner, Stefani warmly greeted us, welcomed us to the farm and explained the process. They provide the buckets and the pruners, and she explained how to cut the flowers. You can fill up the entire bucket, the size of a child’s beach bucket for one low price. We went off exploring, picking all of our favorite flowers as we saw them. There were quite the variety of sunflowers, zinnias, gladiolus, dahlias, celosia, cosmos and more in bloom while we were there. The flower selection changes throughout the season. All the flowers are arranged in rows with plenty of grassy space in between for you to walk.
We were a bit rushed just due to our daughter’s schedule, but I would have loved to take a little more time, it was so relaxing and beautiful here. We filled our bucket and headed back to the barn. Stefani gathered up our flowers and placed them in a bag, then directed us to the barn to select a vase if we wanted (included in the price of the flowers). We paid for the flowers and took them home to arrange them. We were able to get two good sized vases full of flowers and could have split them up to have probably four decent sized arrangements. (We have cats who are very nosey and like to eat flowers, so we stuck to two and put them up high, away from the cat’s spaces!) What a fun experience! It’s so much more fun to pick them yourself than to go to a flower shop to purchase a bouquet and it’s more economical for sure!
Do you see our kitty??
We hope you will visit this flower farm on the south side of Lafayette and enjoy it as much as we did! You can find it on County Road 700 South between US 231 and County Road 100 East (Actual address is: 748 E 700 S Lafayette, IN 47909).
