Congrats to our 2014 Holiday Shopping Giveaway Winner!

We have the winner of our 2014 Holiday Shopping Giveaway Contest worth over $575! Congratulations to Mary Claxton from Lafayette, Indiana.

What is your favorite gift you have given or received during the holiday season? Feel free to share with us the story that goes along with the gift.

Mary shared, “I received the very best gift anyone could possibly get just two days before Thanksgiving. I gave birth to our first child, a beautiful baby girl. My husband was stationed in Viet Nam at the time. My parents, his in-laws, had to telephone the Red Cross, who in turn would inform my husband of the birth of his little daughter. We were both so very happy and excited but were thousands of miles apart for such a wonderful occasion. We wrote to each other every single day for a year. That is how we had to correspond in those days.

Then on Christmas morning of that same year (1968), on a morning television show called The Today Show, was my husband! There he stood in his Army uniform, all the way from Viet Nam, and with a smile on his face, he wished me and his new baby daughter, Sherry Lynn, a “Very Merry Christmas” WOW! what a gift that was! Although he couldn’t be with us that year for Christmas. He certainly “was with us.” and I thanked God for that blessed gift.”

Thanks to all who participated in this latest contest! Stay tuned for our next big contest/package we will be hosting early 2015.

After shopping your heart away, on Sunday, November 9, take part in the Battle of Tippecanoe Annual Commemoration. On November 7th, 1811, William Henry Harrison’s troops and the warriors of Prophetstown engaged in the famous Battle of Tippecanoe. This event, significant in the history of Indiana and the United States, is remembered each year by the Tippecanoe County Historical Association with special programs to help tell the story of the battle and to honor those who fought. This year, on Sunday November 9th from 10:00 to 5:00, to commemorate the battle, the special theme will be honoring American Veterans. A living history military encampment will be set up on the grounds of the park to showcase veterans from American conflicts throughout time. At 1:00 pm, a flag ceremony and wreath laying will be held at the monument. This event is free and open to the public.

Happening Today! Little Bird Lane, Children’s Consignment Event

LBL10Happening Now! Right now, the talk around town is about a local event that is taking place today, Thursday, March 13 through Saturday, March 15 at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds. It is “Little Bird Lane, Children’s Consignment Event“. It is a one of its kind event in our area! It is a seasonal event that happens every spring and fall and thousands of shoppers participate.

Looking for something special for your little one! They have everything you could need–clothing, toys, equipment, furniture, books…you name it! It’s all at incredible prices and they individually inspect each and every item for staining, wear and tear, and proper functionality, as well as for recalls.

As a little background, the owner and entrepreneur of this event is Christina Wright.  She shares, “I was driving to Indy and Noblesville at least 3 times every spring and every fall to go to events like this. I was shopping and consigning in Indianapolis and I finally decided that our community deserved an event of this sort and we have been welcomed with such an incredible excitement and enthusiasm. I believe we are offering a service to our community–we’re giving families a platform for getting rid of their unused and unwanted kids items while making money (our average consignor earns over $320 in just 4 days!) and we’re offering the ability for shoppers to get incredible, name brand items at deeply discounted prices. Its making families money, saving families money, and it’s green!”

Spring Break StayCation – Lafayette-West Lafayette #2

Inspired Fire

Inspired Fire

Spring Break 2014! This week we are featuring why you should visit Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, for spring break this year. If you missed it on Monday, March 3, we shared fun, family friendly activities. Today we are going to feature unique area attractions that make Lafayette-West Lafayette the best choice for your spring break vacation!

The Arts – Did you know Lafayette-West Lafayette is rich in the arts? There are over 17 art galleries all within our two cities! I personally think we have an art mecca that is undiscovered by many. Fine art, from oil paintings and fine art prints to glass art, sculpture and contemporary pieces; there is something unique for everyone. Visitors could spend a whole weekend exploring our art galleries. There are also over 45 pieces of outdoor art ranging from sculptures, community fountains, and more. (Note: don’t miss visiting our 70 specialty shops located downtown Lafayette- many of them feature local artwork!)

Wolf Park – Have you ever howled with the wolves? You can! Wolf Park, a one of a kind research facility that studies wildlife behavior, welcomes visitors to come and howl with the wolves on Saturday nights. (Friday and Saturday nights May to November). It is a pretty amazing experience that can only be truly felt by being on Wolf Park’s grounds. There are also coyotes, foxes and bison that visitors can meet and/or see roaming around. (Note: the animals are all within a fenced area!).  Wolf Park also has a visitors’ center that allows for year-round viewing. This park is internally acclaimed and a must see on your visit to our area! Now a Horizontal Portrait of Dharma

History – My family are huge history buffs and I have grown up exploring areas all over the United States that have historical significance. Did you know that a great battle was fought here that lead to the Battle of 1812? The Battle of Tippecanoe between the United States’ forces, led by William Henry Harrison and representatives of Tecumseh’s Native American confederation took place on November 7, 1811. A National Historic Landmark, located in a 96-acre park setting in Battle Ground, Indiana, along with a museum and nature center are open for visitors to explore.

Nearby, visitors can explore Indiana’s newest state park, Prophetstown State Park. Take a walk around the Native American village and attend one of the many public programs about nature or history. Discover the Farmstead within the park, where valuable lessons are uncovered. Special programs, horse-drawn trolley rides, interesting interpretations and demonstrations are available.

Do not miss visiting Lafayette-West Lafayette this spring break season! For more information about these attractions and other fun things to do in our area, visit our website at www.HomeOfPurdue.com.

Beautiful Art & More at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette Gift Shop

GreaterLafArtMus2013.22 Great Cities, 1 Great University, “One Great Art Destination”. Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is home to many creative and unique art galleries and one that stands out and shines is the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. This museum not only has revolving exhibits throughout the year, but a gift shop that offers one of a kind gifts.

January in Indiana. What comes to your mind? I think snow, cold weather, indoors. I am always trying to think of fun, local activities that will get me to venture out of my nice, warm house! An afternoon visit to the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette is one of the places that tantalizes my need to journey out where I can admire lovely artwork and as a bonus, shop at their amazing gift shop! We have many March birthdays in my family, and a trip to the gift shop is the perfect location to find gifts that my family members will enjoy.

Art Museum of Greater Lafayette 2012.9JPGThe Art Museum of Greater Lafayette gift shop features works of art by over forty local artists. Jewelry, clothing, paintings, and housewares created by regional artists are for sale. When one walks into the gift shop their senses come alive as sunlight streams in through a wall full of windows highlighting all the great shopping finds. From colorful hand-painted vases to custom-made jewelry to photography of Indiana landscapes; it is impossible to leave without purchasing something!

Another aspect I love about going to the art museum is to enjoy the exhibit that is on display. Currently, the exhibit that is running through March 2, is Painting Indiana III: Heritage of Place. This exhibition features works created en plein aire, French for “out of doors” by members of IPAPA and is the third in a series of successful exhibit/book projects.  One hundred works by Indiana plein air painters are on display. The book featuring all the art projects is available for sale in the gift shop. This book is on my shopping list to give my aunt who loves art!
