This Saturday, December 16, Santa visits Wolf Park! Families are encouraged to come celebrate the holiday season with the wolves. Children are welcome to help staff and volunteers decorate small evergreen trees with wolf-edible treats such as hot dogs, spam, and spaghetti. When Santa arrives, the guests can watch the excitement of the wolves and children as the “edible trees” and other treats are distributed amongst the wolves. Although the program takes place outside (since the wolves are outside), guests are invited into our buildings to warm up, have some hot chocolate and, after the tree and treat distribution, talk to Santa, who will be accepting requests. In the past, Santa has arrived by dog sled, on horseback, by convertible, and in a helicopter! Be sure to visit and see how Santa will come to Wolf Park this year!

MA8A0272Holiday Pops is back this Saturday, December 16! Musical features include Concertmaster Alfred Abel performing Vivaldi’s Winter from The Four Seasons, and Harpist Melissa Gallant playing a lovely medley of The Waltz of the Flowers and The First Noel. Special appearances by WBAA’s John Clare and the Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette make this an evening Santa himself won’t want to miss!

Kathy’s Kandies – 1 Great Location for Chocolate Treats

Santa Chocolate Sucker!

Santa Chocolate Sucker!

2 Great Cities, 1 Great University, 1 Great Location for Chocolate Treats!  The holidays are here and this means parties, family and food.  Sweets and treats come to mind when we think of holiday parties, and Kathy’s Kandies is baking up a storm to create specialty candies that are the perfect compliment to a holiday meal.  Chocolate truffles, cake balls, artisan chocolates; these are just a few items Kathy’s Kandies is offering this holiday season.

Peppermint Bark

Peppermint Bark

I love holiday time!  This year I am hosting not one holiday party, but two!  Planning the party, cooking all the food, and decorating my home are some of the best parts of the holidays.  Part of the planning is picking out the best treats to offer my guests along with a holiday favor to take home with them.  This year I have picked Kathy’s Kandies to bake my “holiday specialty treats“.  Kathy bakes the most decadent cake balls; rich, moist chocolate cake dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with fairy dust (this is not the name, but what it looks like!).  The cake balls are rich but bite sized, which makes them the perfect compliment to add after the big, hearty meal I will serve.  (Please note, Kathy makes a number of different flavors of cake balls!)  One more small addition to our holiday table is Kathy’s chocolate pizzas.  The peppermint bark pizza will not only be a delicious treat guests can break into, but add a festive beauty to the table.

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Chicken Wings!

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Chicken Wings!

I thought long and hard over my favor to send home with my guests this year. I wanted something unique, fun and memorable.  I contacted Kathy and she shared they are creating chocolate chicken wings filled with peanut butter that comes with a side of marshmallow fluff to dip them in.   I thought it sounded like such a fun dessert item that guests would love to take home.  I also couldn’t stop myself from ordering Santa, reindeer and snowman novelty suckers for each couple to take home with them to their children.

Kathy’s Kandies also offers a slew of other desserts including gourmet popcorn, shakes & smoothies, drinking chocolate, licorice, cakes & cookies, candies and more!
