Great singing voices and musicianship allow them to cover a tremendous variety of classic rock songs from the early days to the present. In addition to great guitar playing, the secret weapon is “the flute”. Audiences visibly take notice when they hear the familiar melodies backed up by a powerhouse rhythm section. Weekend Update! Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway? Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by? Check out the endless possibilities for fun events happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

It’s one of my favorite childhood favorite stories and is a classic, “Charlotte’s Web”!  The Civic Youth Theatre Present: “Charlotte’s Web” this weekend, Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 17. The Children’s Literature Association named this “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years.”  Adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette, all the enchanting characters are here:  Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher, Fern, Templeton, the Zuckerman family, the Arables, and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “Some pig.” It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign, which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte.

Live on stage, this Saturday, November 16, is the artist, Jonathan Richman, presented by Friends of Bob!  His music embodies timeless qualities of humanity, optimism, emotional insight and a boundless sense of humor. Over the years, Jonathan’s music has absorbed a multitude of influences, from doo-wop to country to a variety of international styles, without sacrificing this effervescent personality.  Check out his performance at Lafayette Brewing Company for a night of great music, humor and delicious food!

counterSacred Grounds sits a little less than a mile away from the great Wabash River. Lit candles and antique furniture give this café a cozy atmosphere. Huge glass windows are situated in the main seating area. A brick wall slices through the middle of the building offering support to the high ceilings. A reconstructed wooden counter and hand painted quotes add to the vintage feel of this shop. Battle Ground – My School Days Playground! Don’t miss the Indiana Fiddler’s Gathering!

SONY DSCPurdue Student, Julia, shares her enjoyment at the Indiana Fiddler’s Gathering in Battle Ground, Indiana, taking place June 28-30.

The Fiddlers’ in Battle Ground is a perfect weekend event for music-lovers.  The official name is “Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering”, but it is often referred to as the “Fiddlers'” depending on where one is from.   I attended the festival with a great group of friends who would appreciate a night of folk music!  The festival goes from Friday until Sunday with campers from all over the state (and beyond), giving the Fiddlers’ an inviting and community-effort feeling. The town of Battle Ground is quite small, but it in a town where everyone knows each other and it is fun to see the locals having a weekend to welcome others.

We staked out the perfect spot for our folding chairs and blankets where we could hear all the music and watch the town move about the grounds.  We had a fantastic night with good friends listening to live music that is hard to come by!  If you become restless, the Fiddlers’ is on the Tippecanoe Battlefield, which leads to a beautiful creek, a bridge that crosses it and fields past the bridge.  Our group enjoyed listening to the bands, socializing in a friendly environment, and as the sun went down, catching fireflies. The Fiddlers’ is an annual event that I would always recommend!

Also, note!  Visitors can order discounted tickets at www.indianafiddlersgathering.org!  Have fun!
