It’s Family Day at The Farm at Prophetstown this Saturday, June 3! Enjoy demonstrations, music, games, food, plenty of animals to see, trolley rides and more. Have you ever participated in a food eating contest? You can! There will be a pie eating contest at 12:00pm. Yum! Also, Scott Greeson has performed all around the Midwest and will be putting on a show in the barn from 1:00pm-3:00pm.

More family fun takes place Saturday night! Head downtown for a free family friendly event, Mosey Down Main Street. With three stages of music, outdoor food, beer, and wine sales as well as street performers, sidewalk chalk and hand made Hula hoops, Drum circles, DJ’s, belly dancers and balloon animals, this is a night not to be missed!

Bach Chorale Singers present their final performances of this season this Friday and Saturday.  On Friday, April 28, celebrate Indiana’s musical heritage with the “delovely” music of Cole Porter and other Indiana composers at the Long Center for the Performing arts. The Bach Chorale Singers will delight you with this great presentation. The following day, head to the Immanuel United Church of Christ as the Bach Chorale Singers present Lafayette Children’s Choir – Kaleidoscope of Colors. Join in this joyous exploration of all the colors of our musical rainbow heritage!

On Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, enjoy the beauty of dance at the Purdue Contemporary Dance Company: Spring Dance Works 2017. The seven new dance works are accompanied by original music/sound created specifically for these dances by students in the Theatre Department’s Sound Design program. Dance will come alive this weekend at Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in the Yue-Kong Pao Hall, don’t miss it!

It’s that time again! New Year’s Eve!! What are you doing this year to celebrate?  Are you going out with friends or family to ring in the New Year? Or maybe you are hosting a holiday party at your home and will watch the ball drop from your living room T.V.?  It is a fun night of merriment as we celebrate 2016 and make New Year’s Day resolutions we hope to live by in 2017!  (Question…is there a resolution you have ever kept all year long??)

img_1462Arrowhead Bowl is hosting their annual New Years Eve Bowling Celebration.  Bring your kids to the “Family Celebration” from 4-6 pm or 7-9 pm.  This includes 2 hours of unlimited cosmic bowling, free shoe rental, 2 pizzas, 2 orders of bread sticks w/cheese, unlimited soft drinks, party favors, and more; limit 6 people per lane. The cost is $77.99 per lane. The “Adult Celebration” starts at 10 pm and is $25 per person. This includes 3 hours of unlimited cosmic bowling, free shoe rental, party favors, cash door prizes, pizza style food buffet, and unlimited soft drinks.

Join in a spectacular New Year’s Eve Celebration on Saturday, December 31 from 9 PM – 2 AM (doors open at 8:30) at Nine Irish Brothers in West Lafayette. Reservations for this private event are required, and include a champagne toast, bountiful hors d’oeuvres, and a live DJ, all for only $45 per person.

The Knickerbocker Saloon Presents: New Year’s Eve Bash featuring Jason Wells Band and Champagne Toast at midnight on December 31. This event starts at 10pm.

Not in the mood for a party, but want to get out and enjoy a night of delicious food and New Year’s Eve cheer; head to one of our great dining establishments. Lafayette-West Lafayette is home to over 250 restaurants! We do recommend calling ahead and making a reservation.

Merry Christmas Weekend Update

This weekend marks Christmas Eve and Christmas.  Enjoy this time with family and friends. It’s a busy time, but if your family has an extra hour in the evening on Christmas Eve, head out via your vehicle to the 9th Street Hill Luminaria Display.  Volunteers light hundreds of candles inside luminaria, a tradition that began in the neighborhood more than 20 years ago. The display will be on sidewalks of 9th Street Hill neighborhood on the weekend before Christmas through Christmas Eve.

Celebrate the holidays with the animals at the Farm at Prophetstown during Holiday Animal Celebration. Join farm staff for feeding time! They will be treating the animals to a holiday buffet. The treats will be served at 9am. Come and join in the fun by helping everyone thank the animals with healthy treats.

Santa Visits Wolf Park! This Saturday, December 17, from 1-4pm, bring the family to Wolf Park to celebrate the holiday season with the wolves. Children are welcome to help staff and volunteers decorate small evergreen trees with wolf-edible treats such as hot dogs, spam, and spaghetti. When Santa arrives, the guests can watch the excitement of the wolves and children as the “edible trees” and other treats are distributed among the wolves. Although the program takes place outside (since the wolves are outside), guests are invited into Wolf Park buildings to warm up, have some hot chocolate and, after the tree and treat distribution, talk to Santa, who will be accepting requests. Every year Santa arrives via a different form of transportation! How do you think he will arrive this year?

Purdue Football Weekend Update

464Purdue Football Weekend Update! This Saturday, November 19, marks the last Purdue home game of the season.  It’s been a bit of a rough year for our Boilermaker Football Team, but as true fans, we stand by our Boilers and celebrate their efforts this season. Come out and cheer them on this weekend as they take on Wisconsin. Along with the game, are a host of fun activities.  Check them out:

  • Friday, November 18, typically from 12-3pm (time may vary) take a ride on the Boilermaker Special! Pick-ups will be in front of Stewart Center and run every 15 minutes. Look for the marquee! Check their website and/or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ReamerClub) for time changes, updates and cancellations.
  • Boiler Bridge Walk is taking place Friday, November 18. Join the Purdue football team as it connects Lafayette and West Lafayette on the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge on Friday night.  Enjoy live music, giveaways, and meet the cheerleaders and Purdue Pete starting at 5:45 p.m. at this free event. The football team will arrive at approximately 6 p.m. by the fountain on the West Lafayette side of the bridge. The Boilermakers will interact with fans as they make their way to Riehle Plaza on the Lafayette side of the bridge.
  • All Purdue jazz ensembles will be performing during their concert at Loeb Playhouse img_8521on Friday, November 18 at 8pm. This event is free and open to the public.
  • On game day, Saturday, November 19, fans, especially families, looking for fun before the game need to check out the popular Boilermaker Crossing. Meet-the-team events, inflatable games, and interactive opportunities highlight the list of activities. The Boilermaker Crossing is free and open to fans of all ages. Located in the Sally & Bob Weist Plaza, between Mackey Arena and Holloway Gymnasium, Boilermaker Crossing open 3 hours before kickoff. Cheer on the Boilermaker football team as it walks through Boilermaker Crossing on its way to the locker room approximately 2 hours before the game!
  • More game day fun! 2 hours and 11 minutes before kickoff the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band will perform halftime highlights, school songs, and more in Mackey Arena alongside the Boilermaker football team. Following the game, head over to Slayter Hill for the band’s post-game performance.
  • img_8556To conclude a fabulous weekend, on Sunday, November 20, the Purdue Wind Ensemble will perform at the Long Center for the Performing arts. This event is free and open to the public.

SONY DSCMore Bicentennial celebrations take place this Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13, during the Tippecanoe and Indiana Too- a Bicentennial of Indiana Statehood event. The 205th Anniversary of the Battle of Tippecanoe, along with the Bicentennial of the State of Indiana, will be commemorated at the Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground. In recognition of the national prominence of the Battle of Tippecanoe in the history of the fledgling United States State of Indiana, recreated period military units and historical re-enactors will be camped on the actual battlefield site, in the same locations that their predecessors participated in the battle over two hundred years ago. Other period re-enactors, including civilians and craftspeople, will be camped on the Tippecanoe Battlefield park grounds. This event is free and open to the public.

The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra is honoring the big 2-0-0 with a lineup of local talent, Hoosier songwriters and composers, and an audio-visual presentation of historic homegrown artwork in collaboration with ArtSmart: Indiana and the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. Come out and enjoy this night of Indiana musical entertainment.

On Friday, October 7, Lewington & Downie hit Nine Irish Brothers- Lafayette with their musical masterpieces.  After a decade touring through the US and Europe with Jubilee Riots and Enter the Haggis, Trevor Lewington and Craig Downie are hitting the road as a duo with a sound that’s been described as “Mumford and Sons meets Def Leppard.” Lewington stomps on drums while playing guitar and singing and Downie brings an arsenal of instruments to the table, switching between them like a mad scientist. Performances include original songs, re-imagined traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, and unexpected covers.

We can’t wait for Saturday, October 8! It is the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra’s Opening Night at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. The evening offers a lush selection of works depicting trials and triumphs in the realms of fantasy. Kidnapped princessses and brave knights, forbidden love tangled in class warfare, and symphonic explorations of fate all come together in a dramatic night of orchestral storytelling.
