Children are welcome to help staff and volunteers decorate small evergreen trees with wolf-edible treats such as hot dogs, spam, and spaghetti. When Santa arrives, the guests can watch the excitement of the wolves and children as the “edible trees” and other treats are distributed among the wolves. Although the program takes place outside (since the wolves are outside), guests are invited into Wolf Park buildings to warm up, have some hot chocolate and, after the tree and treat distribution, talk to Santa, who will be accepting requests. Every year Santa arrives via a different form of transportation! How do you think he will arrive this year?

Meet you at Arni’s!

It’s holiday time in Lafayette-West Lafayette! Thanksgiving is this week and in 5 weeks Christmas and New Year’s will hit.  Wowza, it’s been a busy, fast year!  Do you ever think, “slow down time!” I feel this way all of the time and so this holiday season, I am going to try to embark on an “embrace every day” mantra.  With this being said, instead of hosting a holiday party at my house which takes hours and hours of cleaning, cooking, and decorating, I am making a reservation at a local restaurant to host my friends and family. Now onto the hard part, which restaurant?  Here is a short list of my top picks.  Let me know what you think??  Where should I book my special holiday party this year?

  • Arni’s – A family fun restaurant serving thin crust pizza, famed Arni’s Junior Salad, and fresh garlic bread.
  • Bruno’s – Hand tossed pizza, famous Bruno Dough, and decadent cocktails served in a Swiss Style decorated restaurant.

Purdue Christmas Show

Purdue Christmas Show

It is the happiest time of the year. A time for gathering of families, celebrating and to be jolly. Holiday time is the best! Lafayette-West Lafayette are two great cities to celebrate the holidays in thanks to the many activities and celebrations that occur during the holiday month.

Put on by the Purdue University Musical Organizations is the incredible PMO Christmas Show. Each year there are four shows put on by students of the university celebrating the holiday season. This show draws people from all over the United States. At each show, all 6,000 seats of Elliot Hall are typically sold out. The show has been going on since 1933 and has evolved into a spectacular event. The PMO Christmas Show has been voted as a Top 100 Event in North America by the American Bus Association three times. In 1998, 2003, and 2010, the Christmas Show has won this incredible honor. You must purchase your tickets in advance to this popular event.

Each year, a celebration of the holidays is seen in the streets of downtown Lafayette called the Lafayette- West Lafayette Christmas Parade. Many local groups and organizations take part and show off their holiday spirit. From area high schools’ marching bands to church groups to Purdue student groups, they all gather and spread their holiday cheer to all. Ending with the Purdue University All American Marching Band, the parade is such a fun way to enjoy the holidays.

Dickens Carriage Rides

Dickens Carriage Rides

Step back in time into Victorian England each holiday season as Lafayette is completely transformed for Dickens of a Christmas. Throughout the day, many activities occur including live performances by choirs and entertainers, roving carolers, a Holiday Farmers Market, Riverside Skating Rink sessions, artisans in costume demonstrating their craft, carriage rides and of course, the Dickens and Victorian street characters! A scene from A Christmas Carol is acted out at Riehle Plaza. Finally, you can join in the Community Sing as the holiday season is officially kicked off by “flipping the switch” to light the Courthouse Dome, Riehle Plaza, Big Four Depot and the Community Tree.

Finally, you must plan ahead for this special event. Dinner with Santa is held at Lafayette Brewing Company each year. Two dinner sessions occur in an evening for families to enjoy together. A buffet dinner is served while children have the opportunity to visit with Santa. Holiday music plays throughout the restaurant as children take over for the evening.

Lafayette- West Lafayette is a great place to celebrate the best time of the year. So much joy and laughter can be heard all throughout the city. With the brisk air and snow on the ground, the holidays come and go so quickly. Mayhem and Murder.  Horror and Mystery.  This Halloween season “Tour of Terror” offers visitors a night of suspense and entertainment.  Knowledgeable tour guides lead visitors through Downtown Lafayette visiting sites of horrible accidents, mayhem and murder.  The stories are historically researched and told in a theatrical way for the education and entertainment of those on the tour. Come out this weekend to take part in this suspenseful event!  (Tickets historically sell out, so I recommend purchasing tickets soon!)

Visit Battle Ground to watch the wolves, coyotes and foxes party away eating pumpkins filled with tasty treats during the “Wolf Park Pumpkin Party”.  Each animal gets his or her own pumpkin and approaches this environmentally enriched activity with his or her own flair.  Donate $25 to get your own special photo with your favorite wolf!
