Northwest Indiana’s Largest Corn Maze, Exploration Acres

Exploration Acres 006The leaves have begun to change color and we have all began to break out those cozy sweaters and scarves. That’s right, it is autumn, my absolute favorite season! The weather in Indiana during the fall is the absolute best! An exciting attraction that opens each fall is Exploration Acres. It located five miles south of Lafayette and offers many family friendly fall activities. Claiming fame as Northwest Indiana’s Largest Corn Maze, Exploration Acres is the perfect place to enjoy the season.

Exploration Acres 005An 18-acre corn maze is crafted with a new theme each year. Literally, you could walk 9 miles through the four different mazes, which is one way to get your exercise in! All throughout the maze are checkpoints where you can earn coupons and rewards from various local businesses. Deciding which checkpoints to hit should not be an issue, as you should try and hit them all in one adventure without becoming too lost! This year’s maze features a farm setting with a farmer, barn, cow and much more!

undefined[6]The pumpkin patch features 10 acres of a variety of pumpkins. You should set aside time specifically to pick out that perfect pumpkin to carve that Batman symbol you have always wanted to carve! There are so many cute little pumpkins and squash available as well that I guarantee you will leave with more than you planned!

Exploration Acres 010Other attractions at Exploration Acres include hayrides, a pedal car track, a straw bale tunnel, a sand pile, and a pumpkin race track. All of these activities are family friendly and are included with admission.

Other activities are available for an extra fee. These include a corn cannon where you shoot ears of corn up to 500 feet in the air, a gem mine where you can search for hidden treasures, and pony rides. Probably the neatest extra activity they offer is the fire pits. For a small fee, a family or group can rent a fire pit on a certain night during a specific time slot. This serves a great place to gather together in the outdoors and socialize together.

Exploration Acres 004Exploration Acres is the ideal place to enjoy all that Indiana has to offer in the fall season. Spend some time in the great outdoors with family and friends at a great local farm. It is located five miles south of Lafayette at 6042 Newcastle Road between I-65 and US 52. It is open Thursdays through Sundays until October 29th.

Fall Fever in Lafayette-West Lafayette 2013

mapFall fever has hit Lafayette-West Lafayette!  It is the time of year where the leaves are changing to vibrant orange and red colors and there is a smell in the air that is a mix of cool air, leaves, and earth.  Every time I go outside I take a deep breath and embrace the season.  I love fall and all the many activities and attractions that it brings to our area.  Here are a few of my favorites that cannot be missed on a trip to Lafayette-West Lafayette.

Exploration Acres– What is better than spending an afternoon getting lost in a corn field?  Explore this 18-acre corn maze with over 8 miles of twists and turns!  This year’s maze is designed showcasing Mount Rushmore and the Statue of Liberty.  My husband and I always add Exploration Acres to our “Fall Must-Do” and now with our little baby girl, we hope to make it a family tradition.  I am sure when she is older she will love picking out a pumpkin in their pumpkin patch, race a pedal car, and/or fire a three-ear corn cannon.

Wea Orchard– Explore an orchard full of delicious apples and pumpkins at Wea Creek Orchard. Bring the family to ride on a hay wagon as it travels through the fields and farm exploring the beauty of the orchard. Shop at the gift shop full of goodies; cider, honey, and fruit products such as preserves, salsas, butters, and jellies. Their preserves are just like my mother makes!  They are delicious sweet goodness in a jar!

prophetstownpark_cProphetstown State Park- There is a host of fall activities at Indiana’s newest state park. Visit the Farm at Prophetstown where you can meet Belgian draft horse, chickens, cows, cats and their friendly dog.  My nephews (ages 4 & 6) live in Phoenix, Arizona, and every time they visit they request a visit of the Farm! Visitors can also tour a replica Sears and Roebuck’s, turn of the century home that houses lovely antiques.  Enjoy the fall beauty of Indiana by hiking the many trails at Prophetstown State Park.  Within the park, the meadows, fen and marshes are explored by many.  The park offers many trail walks with a guide whom will share and teach hikers about the local fauna, insects, birds, etc.

Exploration Acres and The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story

Pedal Car Racing

Weekend Update!  Looking for a fun Indiana weekend getaway?  Or do you live in this area and are looking for entertainment close by?  Check out the endless possibilities for fun and relaxation happening this upcoming weekend in Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana.

This weekend marks the end of the fall festivities at Exploration Acres.  This year has been an exciting year at the 18 acre corn maze with the introduction of a few new attractions; the Gem Mine, Pony Rides, and Pumpkin Decorating/ Race.   A Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette staff member shared she took her granddaughter to visit this year, and she was so excited to ride on the little ponies.  Better yet, this little girl is very artsy and used her skills to create a pumpkin decorated with stickers and colorful markers.  The family all joined in the fun and ventured into the 18 acre corn maze.  They got lost only a dozen times but came out laughing and excited about the rewards from local businesses they received by finding the different stations along the way.  Do not miss out this family fun activity this weekend.  (It won’t be back until next August!)

If you are in the mood for a fright this Friday and Saturday, look no further than “The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story” presented by the Lafayette Civic Theatre.  This frightening play will have you at the edge of your seat in suspense.  A lawyer hires an actor to tutor him in recounting to family and friends a story that has long troubled him concerning events that transpired when he attended the funeral of an elderly recluse. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, for she is a specter who haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was accidentally killed. Anyone who sees her dies!  Does this sound terrifying or what!?
