Hidden Gem of Lafayette-West Lafayette: John Purdue Room at Sgt. Preston’s. Right now the locals are talking about all the wonderful holiday parties they are hosting. One spectacular location for a holiday party is in the John Purdue Room at Sgt. Preston’s.

Many people do not even know about this Purdue decorated event space that is located in the historic John Purdue Block Building, next to Sgt. Preston’s.  This 1100 square foot party place seats up to 60 people and features exposed brick walls, Purdue memorabilia, a flat screen television and an outdoor patio adjacent to the room. It’s a little too cold right now for the outdoor patio, but please note this is fabulous outdoor space from spring through fall!

Outpost & Sgt. Preston’s Catering is the exclusive caterer for this location and always has fantastic food!  I have been to many events from business meetings to baby showers to anniversary and graduation parties here, and I always look forward to the food.  Their homemade spinach dip, decadent wings, and loaded potato salad are just a few of my favorites. They create beautiful and delicious fruit and cheese trays that are always a hit.  A full bar is also available to guests.

Lafayette Brew Co.

Located in a historic, turn-of-the-century building at 622 Main Street, the Lafayette Brewing Company has been serving fresh, handcrafted ales brewed in the Old World tradition since 1993.  Lafayette Brewing Co. ales are produced from only the finest malted barley, generous amounts of fresh hops, water and specially selected ale yeasts. The end result is a wide selection of unfiltered, unpasteurized ales in a variety of classic beer styles.  Lafayette Brewing Co. award-winning ales can be enjoyed at the peak of freshness directly from the serving tanks and make the perfect complement to the tasty pub fare in their restaurant.  Local entertainment including live music and comedic acts take place all year long offering visitors a true local experience.

People’s Brewing Company is a hidden gem in Lafayette-West Lafayette. Wildcat Winery Pix 2009.10JPGWhat is better than enjoying a glass of wine? Nothing!  Well, there may be one thing that is better; sampling multiple wines!  Local winery, Wildcat Creek Winery, offers rich, piercing wines that are available for tasting and purchasing.  When visitors arrive, they are welcomed through the beauty of the outdoor space. Luscious flowers, deep green grass, and a cute small home recreated into a winery greet you. It is almost as if one can smell the wine outside. Once guests arrive within the winery, they are welcomed by the workers to taste their locally made wines in the tasting room that hosts a large wood bar and brick fireplace. Their wines range from medium bodied reds to semi-dry, full-bodied wines. A local favorite, Lafayette Blush, is a wine that is light and fruity and perfect in the spring and summer to refresh the senses. Visitors are welcome to purchase a glass to enjoy outside in their comfortable lounge chairs overlooking the meadow and woods.  Wine tasting is a fun adventure, so do not miss this winery on your next visit to Lafayette-West Lafayette.

The Black Crow – Collectibles, Antiques, & So Much More!

2 Great Cities, 1 Great University, Many Amazing Antique Stores! Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, is happy to announce a new antique store that opened in 2012 called the Black Crow, located downtown Lafayette.  This shop specializes in fine antiques, collectibles and unique decorating items for the home.

My newest addiction is shopping downtown Lafayette (to my husband’s great concern!).  This past year I have seen an influx of new businesses taking up residence in empty storefronts and it makes my heart happy to see this area flourish.  It also makes me excited because with the addition of new shops equals more places to find the perfect decorating piece for my home or for a present for a loved one.

The Black Crow is one of Lafayette’s newest antique stores and I have been excited to shop here.  First impressions mean a lot to me, and not only was I happily greeted by the store owner, but the rich smells from the candles they sell was so beautifully aromatic it made my senses come alive.  The shop space is small, but it is filled with beautiful painted cabinets full of unique decorating items for the home.  They also sell dips and salsas that are the perfect complement to a party or for just an afternoon snack.

This little guy caught my eye! So cute!

I have visited The Black Crow many times, and I have received the same friendly greeting every time.  I have been excited to see new items on display to purchase and it has been hard to keep my spending in check!  I would recommend checking out The Black Crow on your next visit to Lafayette-West Lafayette.
